Weekly Warble #1 - 24th Feb 2008

I am fast becoming convinced that I am unemployable. Unfortunately I am at a stage in my life where I have too much experience in most of my chosen fields for an employer to take me on as a trainee and not enough experience in any one particular role to get a decent posting. So here I sit in professional limbo.

I am also getting the idea that 90% of employment agencies are wank. So far the only interviews I have got, have been from those agencies that can chat to me on the phone and are happy to send me off to interview. The rest of them, on the promise of 'several live vacancies', lure you to their offices, where you can consume insipid coffee from a motivational mug only to find that the only reason that you made the 150 mile round trip was so they can get you on their books.

I even got an email yesterday from an agency, with a role, asking me to reply if I was interested. I was and I did, only to discover that it was another cunning ruse. Within seconds of sending my email I received the following

Thank-you for your interest in our company.

Could you please fill out the attached registration form to enable us to process your application.

If you recognise this form and have returned it to us in the past then
we may already have you registered on our database and have now updated
your details. If you can't recall returning the completed registration
or your details have changed then please send the new attached copy.

As a professional consultancy it is important that this form is
completed. This helps us to help you when considering your details for
incoming vacancies and saves yours and our time from contacting you
regarding positions that may not be of interest.

I am usually contactable from Monday to Friday between 9.00am and
1.00pm. Therefore if you have any questions or queries then please feel
free to call me between these hours.

Kind regards

Personally I think this is a bit off...

Anyway, welcome to the first weekly warble. My idea is that I will compile this over the week with interesting things and possibly random venting such as the one above. The blog which you may be watching rapidly ticking over to the left will be used mainly as a link dump for me to formulate my mutterings and each weekly warble will have a link to that week's link dump. Trying to get a tag cloud sorted as well, seeing as it seems to be the cool thing to do and as soon as I get around to it the recent blogs postings block will disappear.

For those that are interested, I am using the latest stable release of Drupal 6, Scribefire for blogs and this is being written in Google Docs.
